Octave Magazine

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

Octave Magazine is an online literary journal that features poetry and fiction by musicians who write and writers who make music. We know there are many of you out there. We've seen you at the writing retreats, the workshops, the residencies, the conventions. Banjos pulled from cases, guitars strummed on lonely Adirondack chairs, mandolins appearing from backpacks as if by magic. And we've seen you on that Greyhound bus, in green rooms, in hotel lobbies while your bandmates are still sleeping—beginning the next chapter, the next poem. We started this magazine because we respect what you do. We want to hear from you.

Octave is published biannually, with two submission deadlines: June 15th and December 15th.

You must be a musician for your writing to appear in Octave Magazine. If your writing is chosen for publication, you will be asked to point us in the direction of an MP3 (or link) that displays your musical talents. This MP3 (or link) will accompany your writing when it is published on the site. You will also be asked to define your role in the chosen recording, and submit a short description behind the tracks history and how it came to be in the world.

We are looking for innovative, strong poetry and fiction from performing musicians at all stages, from emerging to renowned. You do not need to have a record, but you do need to have performed live at some point in the not-too-distant past. We are open to all kinds of music/musicians. Your instrument/voice must be audible on the track that you send us.

Simultaneous submissions are encouraged. If accepted, you agree to have your written piece and your music piece published on our magazine's website. Thanks, and we look forward to reading and listening to your work.

The editors, Sarah & Chris.

**NOTE: Poetry submissions are currently closed. We are still accepting fiction for the first issue, please send away!
